I could use macOSX's Image Capture software with the device, but the Epson software works just as well or better in my mind, so I use that. I use it with an iMac and the macOSX operating system. It is easy to unload any paper jams and pick up scanning again where one left off. In my experience it handles most types of paper, in most situations very easily.
